On 7/31/17 at approximately 1715 hours Vermont State Police were notified of a vehicle off the road on Vermont Route 110 in Tunbridge. Upon arriving at the scene, the registered owner of the vehicle was on site and informed Troopers that the vehicle had been operated without their consent. The vehicle had sustained substantial damage to the front wheel along with numerous other scrapes and dents from the crash. Upon investigation, the operator of the vehicle was identified as August Wing. Wing was located and admitted to crashing the vehicle and driving while criminally suspended. Wing was taken into custody and was released with a citation to appear in Orange County Court on 9/13/17 at 0800 hours.

in the Town of Mendon.  Investigation revealed, Pendleton was traveling north on Townline Road when he lost control of his motorcycle on loose gravel and crashed

off the east side of the roadway.  Pendleton was not seriously injured in the crash and was transported to Rutland Regional Medical Center for treatment.  It

was determined, speed and alcohol were not contributing factors in the crash.

SUMMARY OF CRASH:

Troopers with the Rutland Barracks were alerted by 911 of a car that overturned and was in a corn field on Vermont Route 133 in the town of Pawlet, VT. Prior to Troopers arriving the operator was transported to Rutland Regional Medical Center for minor injuries. When Troopers arrived on scene they observed a vehicle in a corn field facing East. After assessing the scene, Troopers met with the operator to obtain a statement at Rutland Regional Medical Center. Upon the conclusion of the investigation, Troopers determined that McKinstry had lost control of the vehicle, subsequently crossing the Eastbound lane of travel and left the roadway. After leaving the roadway the vehicle overturned. It was determined that neither speed nor alcohol were involved in this incident.

                On July 31, 2017 Vermont State Police responded to a residence in Stockbridge where a 50 year old male had died of a possible electrocution.  The victim, Brent Smith, was standing in the yard with other family and friends watching someone cut branches from a tree high above.  One of the branches was accidentally dropped onto a live power line.  Smith dropped to that ground at that time and attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.  Witnesses did not observe Smith to be hit by any debris; however his body may have been touching some equipment which might have conducted the electricity through his body.  Smith's body has been sent to the medical examiner's office for an autopsy.  State Police did not find any suspicious circumstances during their investigation at the scene.

Summary of Incident:

On July 31, 2017 at 0328 hours, the Vermont State Police Middlesex Barracks were notified of a structure fire at the residence of Kevin and Susan Lashomb, located at 76 Railroad Street in Williamstown.  Members from the Williamstown Fire Department responded with mutual aid assistance from the Northfield Fire Department, Barre Town Fire Department, Brookfield Fire Department, and East Randolph Fire Departments. 

Barre Town Ambulance responded to the scene and transported three of the eight family members living at the residence.  Kevin Lashomb, age 44 was transferred to University of Vermont Health Network – Fletcher Allen Health Center Campus for burn injuries, where he is currently listed in stable condition; his daughter, Tanika Lashomb, age 23 was treated and released; and her son, Chance Martin, age 6, was pronounced deceased at the UVM Central Vermont Medical Center Campus.  Martin was later transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner where an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.

Vermont State Police Arson Investigators, along with Division of Fire Safety Investigators are currently on scene and the investigation is ongoing.

Hoffman was ultimately placed under arrest for DUI and transported to the St. Albans Field Station for processing.  At the conclusion of the processing Hoffman was released with a citation to appear in Franklin County District Court on 08/21/2017 at 1:00pm to answer the charge of DUI #2.

While speaking with the operator, William Starr, a strong odor of intoxicants were detected emitting from Starr’s person. Starr willingly performed standardized field sobriety exercises. Investigation also determined that Starr’s license was criminally suspended. Starr was placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI and Driving while criminally suspended. Starr was transported to the Vermont State Police Derby Barracks where he was processed then lodged at Northern State Correctional Facility for lack of $25,000 bail.

SUMMARY OF CRASH: On July 30, 2017 at approximately 20:38 hours Vermont State Police responded to a single vehicle crash near the intersection of West Shore Rd.  and Maple Rd. in the town of  Salisbury.  Further investigation revealed that the vehicle left the roadway while travelling north on West Shore Rd. and subsequently struck a telephone pole.  Witnesses at the scene advised the operator drove away from the scene, leaving a trail of oil from the damaged vehicle. After following the vehicular fluids in the roadway, Troopers found the damaged/disabled truck and identified the operator as Timothy Landwehr. While speaking with Landwehr Troopers detected signs of impairment. Landwehr performed standardized field sobriety tests and was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the New Haven State Police Barracks for processing.  Landwehr was released with a citation to appear in Addison County District Court on August 21, 2017 to answer the charges of DUI #1 and Leaving the Scene of an Accident.

On July 30th, 2017, at approximately 2308 hours, Troopers from the Vermont State Police – Rutland Barracks received a report from security at Green Mountain College of a male looking into cars on the college’s property.

 

Upon their arrival, Troopers located Scott C. Royce, 42, of Poultney, VT. The investigation revealed Royce had made entry into a vehicle and taken items from that vehicle with no right to do so. Royce attempted to discard those items under another motor vehicle when he was located by Troopers. The property was recovered and returned to the owner.

 

It was also determined that Royce had a warrant for his arrest, stemming from a previous driving with a suspended license charge. Royce was taken into custody and transported to Castleton Police Department for processing.

 

Royce was held at the Marble Valley Correction Center on the warrant and was cited to appear at Vermont Superior Court, Criminal Division for violations of Title 13 Vermont Statutes Annotated Section 2502: Petit Larceny, Title 13 Vermont Statutes Annotated Section 2561: Receiving Stolen Property.

On July 30th 2017, VSP Shaftsbury Troopers were on patrol on US Route 7 in Pownal, when a motor vehicle stop was initiated on a vehicle for an expired inspection sticker. While speaking with the operator, identified as Timothy M. Belville, indicators of impairment were observed. After screening, Belville was placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI and transported to the Shaftsbury State Police barracks for processing.

 

While at the barracks for processing, Belville was fingerprinted and photographed. Belville was issued a citation to appear before the Bennington County Superior Court on August 21st 2017 at 0815 hours to answer to the charge of DUI #1.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

 

On July 29, 2017, the State Police received several calls from motorist on Interstate 89N advising there was a vehicle unable to stay in its lane of travel. Troopers located the vehicle described by the callers and conducted a motor vehicle stop near mile marker 82 in the Town of Williston. 

 

Troopers identified the operator as Erin Trainor of Centerville, MA. Troopers determined Trainor was operating under the influence of alcohol and she was subsequently taken into custody for suspicion of DUI. Trainor was then

transported to the Williston State Police Barracks for processing.

 

Following processing, Trainor was lodged at the Chittenden County Correctional Center for lack of $750.00 bail. Trainor was ordered to appear in Chittenden County Criminal Court on July 31, 2017 for the charge of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol.
